Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon is a temple founded by two monks, Suneung (順應) and Ijeong (利貞), who were disciples of Master Uisang of Silla. It was established on October 16, 802 (the third year of King Aejang of Silla), with the help of the king and queen, and is well known as a representative Dharma treasure temple among the three jewel temples of Korea.
The temple is famous for housing the Tripitaka Koreana, a collection of Buddhist scriptures, and the building that holds these scriptures, known as the Janggyeong Panjeon. Haeinsa holds three UNESCO World Heritage sites: Korea’s Mountain Monasteries, the Tripitaka Koreana, and the Janggyeong Panjeon.
Haeinsa also features the Haeindo, which Master Uisang created after attaining enlightenment. Walking along the Haeindo path, one can glimpse the truth of the Hwaeom (Huayan) philosophy
